“He causes grief, yet He will show compassion, so great is His unfailing love. For He does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.”
— Lamentations 3:32–33
Sadness is never the way out, but it can be part of the journey… It may sound strange to think that way, don’t you think? Yet we all go through afflictions and suffering; none of us are exempt. Even the Son of God suffered and wept.
Sadness can benefit us when it helps us change our attitude, become humble and repentant before God, and seek the fulfillment of His will. It is natural to feel sad when we go through difficult times. But with the supernatural help of Jesus, we can face our struggles with peace in our hearts.
The great difference for Christians is that sadness is never the final destination. It may accompany us along part of the journey, through the cold and dark nights of life, but the believer knows that joy comes in the morning. God does not delight in your sadness. He loves you and wants to help you. Trust Him and pour out your heart before the Lord. Have hope! In Jesus Christ, you have the guarantee of eternal joy.
With Christ, Your Sadness Is Temporary
You may be sad, but believe by faith that it is only temporary. Believe that God can bring joy to your heart.
Sadness can be a means for the believer to draw closer to Jesus. Seek the Lord!
Pray, weep, and cry out to God. Prayer and fellowship with the Father do not leave us bitter or distressed.
Praise Him! No matter how difficult it may be, worship the Lord! He brings relief and life.
Have hope! God gives you strength and comforts your heart.
Read the Bible. Renew your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. He is still God!
Prayer:
Lord God, You know my heart. You know that even when I am sad and weary, I trust in You. It is in Your Word that I find the comfort and encouragement my heart needs. Help me overcome life’s difficulties—I cannot do it alone. Above all, fulfill Your will in me. Fill me with Your joy, and may it be my strength today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
